In the heart of the lush Kodagu region, September has been an exciting month at Pavi, filled with meaningful initiatives that blend tradition, community, and sustainability. We are committed to empowering the Kodagu people and preserving their rich cultural heritage. Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to.
Naad Madd - The Healing Power of Nature
Naad Madd, the traditional medicine of the Kodava people, continues to shine as a symbol of nature’s incredible healing power. This month, we spotlighted remedies for common ailments like UTIs and migraines, treated with a blend of various traditional medicinal plants such as citrus, cyclea peltata, leucus aspara, and many more. Naad Madd is more than just a medicinal practice—it’s a reflection of our deep connection with the earth and a commitment to preserving ancient wisdom.
Celebrating Kodagu, A taste, tradition & home
Kailpodh, one of Kodagu’s most cherished festivals, marks the end of the agricultural season and the beginning of the harvest. This celebration is a reflection of gratitude, strength, and community spirit. Along with this, we’ve highlighted Kodagu’s natural abundance through fruits like Cape Gooseberry (Goomatte Pann), Kaad Mange (Wild Mangoes), and Athi Pann Mara (Fig Trees). These nutritious fruits, rich in antioxidants and essential nutrients, are deeply tied to Kodava cuisine and traditional medicine. By honoring these fruits, we emphasize the importance of preserving Kodagu’s biodiversity and using its natural gifts in a sustainable way that benefits both our health and cultural heritage.
Ration Drive - No Family Left Behind
In September, we distributed over 1000 kg of essential groceries, including rice, dals, salt, and sugar, to underprivileged Kodagu and tribal families. Our Ration Drive was a direct response to the ongoing need for the basic necessities in the region. We believe that no family should go hungry, and through this drive, we provided immediate relief to those who needed it most.
Sustaining Farmers Through Every Purchase - The Impact of Honey and Kachampuli Sales
Our sales of honey and Kachampuli continue to support local farmers, ensuring a sustainable income for them. We received glowing testimonials from customers who praised the purity and authenticity of these products. Every purchase of our honey and Kachampuli is more than just a transaction—it’s a way to directly support the families who cultivate these traditional products.
Laptop Panchayath Drive - A Step Toward Digital Empowerment
Technology is essential for growth, and our Laptop Drive, in collaboration with HP, is helping communities in Kodagu become digitally empowered. We donated 5 laptops to Karmad Panchayat, enabling them to enhance their data management, analysis, and administrative work. This initiative is a small but important step toward bridging the digital divide in rural areas.
Conclusion
At Pavi, sustainability and tradition go hand in hand. Through preserving Naad Madd’s healing remedies, celebrating festivals like Kailpodh, and supporting local farmers with honey and Kachampuli sales, we stay true to our mission: uplifting the Kodagu community while preserving their rich culture for future generations.
